What everyone needs to know about protecting and healing Diastasis Recti

Diastasis Recti (aka abdominal separation) discussions are everywhere now. In the past few years there has been a shift from faint awareness of this dysfunction to nearly everyone on social media talking about this. It is great that the conversation is happening but women are not necessarily getting correct, evidence based information on what Diastasis Recti is and how to heal it.

Some studies have found that 100% of women in their third trimester of pregnancy will develop this to accommodate their growing baby. Many of these women will retain this gap for months, even years postpartum. Why does this matter? Well for some, it may not be more than a superficial disturbance as the belly will look different. But it also can make women look bloated, still pregnant or as though they have a stubborn few pounds to lose. But with more investigation, this gap can cause a host of troubles for a woman who no longer has the core integrity to support her busy life including (but not limited to) back and hip pain, pelvic dysfunction, poor digestion, etc. New motherhood is a vulnerable chapter in a woman’s life and we need to allow time to heal and regain her inner core strength. This workshop will highlight some yoga techniques, breathing mechanisms, postural adjustments and much more to rebuild integrity of the abdominal wall.

All levels and experience welcome. Workshop is geared towards new mothers as this population is most often diagnosed (or screened for) in early postpartum. However once postpartum, you are ALWAYS postpartum. Eligible for CEU’s through Yoga Alliance.
